How to convert degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit
Temperature scales have different zero points, so the conversion multiplies and then adds an offset:
°F = °C × 1.8 + 32
°C = (°F − 32) ÷ 1.8
Example: -18 °C → -18 × 1.8 + 32 = -0.4 °F.
To convert the other way, use the degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius converter.
Everyday values
| Degrees Celsius | Degrees Fahrenheit | For example |
|---|---|---|
| -18 °C | -0.4 °F | a home freezer |
| 0 °C | 32 °F | water freezes |
| 20 °C | 68 °F | room temperature |
| 37 °C | 98.6 °F | normal body temperature |
| 38 °C | 100.4 °F | a fever |
| 100 °C | 212 °F | water boils (sea level) |
| 180 °C | 356 °F | a moderate oven |
When you need this conversion
Weather, cooking and fever are the everyday reasons to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. A quick estimate is "double it and add 30": 20 °C → 70 °F (exact: 68 °F). For oven temperatures, 180 °C is 356 °F, usually written as 350 °F on recipes, and 200 °C is about 400 °F.

About the units
- Degree Celsius (°C): the kelvin scale shifted by 273.15.
- Degree Fahrenheit (°F): a scale on which water freezes at 32° and boils at 212° at sea level.
Both are units of temperature. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above.
